Gatina PB highlights the power of community and detail-driven farming. Grown by around 790 smallholders in Nyeri’s Karatina region, this lot reflects a shared commitment to quality. With farms averaging just 0.1 hectares, families can focus on handpicking ripe cherries and applying careful cultivation practices, all supported by the Mugaga Farmers’ Cooperative Society.
At the Gatina Washing Station, cherries are sorted, pulped, fully washed with fresh mountain water, and dried on raised beds for up to 15 days. This Peaberry (PB) lot includes SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11, and Batian varieties grown between 1,800 and 2,050 meters. Peaberries, naturally occurring single seeds, make up about 5 percent of a harvest and tend to produce a sweeter, more focused cup.
