We responsibly source, roast and brew high-quality coffee ☕, here in Perth/Boorloo, WA

At Modus Coffee, we are committed to making coffee better for everyone by responsibly sourcing, roasting, and brewing high-quality coffee in Perth/Boorloo, WA. Our passion for great coffee led us to open our own roastery, Modern Coffee, in 2018, so that we could have complete control over the quality and traceability of the beans we use. We believe in transparency, and our focus on developing lasting relationships with our suppliers ensures that we source our beans ethically and sustainably. From the farmer to the customer, we are dedicated to providing a complete service experience that is rooted in quality, transparency, and responsibility.

Modus opened in December 2016. Sam and Toby started with a simple goal: to serve coffee that felt clean and considered, to build real relationships with the people behind it, and to create spaces that felt calm, welcoming, and quietly intentional.

As the business grew, so did the desire to take full responsibility for quality. In 2018, they launched Modern Coffee, a small roastery focused on traceability, fairness, and transparency. Working directly with producers meant paying well, sourcing responsibly, and staying closely connected to every step of the supply chain.

In 2020, we opened Modus Vic Park, expanding the offering with a full kitchen and in-house baking. In 2021, Modus Wembley followed, continuing our commitment to thoughtful service, simple systems, and quality coffee without fuss.

Today, Modus is a team of over 50 people. Roasters, bakers, baristas, dishies, and delivery drivers, each playing a part in making coffee better, not just in the cup, but throughout the entire process.

We don’t chase trends or do things for show. We care about what’s behind the cup. That means refining our systems so service feels effortless, working with like-minded local suppliers, and keeping waste low through composting and considered packaging.

Transparency isn’t a marketing line, it’s a practice. And it shapes how we source, how we roast, and how we show up each day.
