This coffee was grown and processed by a collective of six small-holder farmers from the village of El Hato, in the state of Antioquia, Colombia. El Hato is one of the highest sub-municipalities of Colombia, located at an incredible 2000 to 2200 MASL. Over Andrew Rivera, Francisco Javier Garcia, Ruben Dario Gomez, Duberley Rivera, Gustavo de Jesus Rivera and Duban Rivera all have small coffee farms, averaging around 1.5 hectares, and they have joined forces to bring us this delicious lot.
Coffee farmers in this area are pioneers at planting and producing coffee at these high altitudes and in cooler climate. Colombia’s Coffee Grower’s Federation (Federation Nacional de Cafeterias de Colombia or FNC) told this group that it would be impossible to grow coffee in this region. However, the cool climate is ideal for the slow ripening of coffee cherries, which results in denser beans and a sweeter, more complex cup of coffee. This collective are now be recognised for the exceptional cup quality and characteristics.
